the park

Located in Mesa, Arizona, Palo Verde Park was originally a designed in the 1980s as a detention basin to direct stormwater overflow into a rectangular-shaped bowl. To combat rising temperatures, lack of water, and shade in the desert, the reimagined park directs all water captured into the path-infrastructure, cleans, and stores for future use. In addition to the existing playground and basketball court, the basin incorporates a sandy court area with interchangeable fields along with an amphitheater wall as a backdrop for events and gatherings.
